Havana Tornado Benefit Concert on Saturday Feb 2nd

Hours after a freak tornado struck southeastern neighborhoods of Guanabacoa, Regla, Luyano, and 10 de Octubre, Cubans were out en masse organizing relief efforts and donations in an inspiring show of solidarity.

The storm hit in the middle of the night on Sunday and left five dead, 200+ injured, and thousands of homes beyond repair.

In the days that followed, local governments, private businesses, civil society organizations, cultural figures and groups of friends mobilized to help those that suffered serious losses from the tornado, bringing food, water and supplies to the affected areas. Vistar has a good rundown of relief efforts on the ground.

The efforts continue this Saturday, February 2, at Estudio 50 in Cerro., as twelve prolific Cuban artists have come together to for a fundraising concert, Habana de Pie, or Stand Up Havana.

The lineup includes Telmary, Raul Paz, Raul Torres, Alain Perez, Interactivo, Yissy Garcia & Bandancha, Dayme Arocena, Idania Valdes, David Blanco, Rodrigo Sosa, DJ JohnEx, and DJ Bo.

The event begins at 8pm, it’s BYOB with free entrance and the proceeds from the event will be used in conjunction with local authorities for relief efforts.
